Stump Grinding FAQ
Stump Grinding Frequently Asked Questions
Gorilla Stump Grinding – Straight Answers. No Monkey Business.
What is stump grinding?
Stump grinding is the process of removing a tree stump by using a powerful machine to grind it down below ground level. The stump is turned into mulch, usually 4–6 inches deep (or more), so it no longer sticks out and won’t grow back.
How is stump grinding different from stump removal?
Stump grinding grinds the stump down into mulch while leaving the roots to naturally decay over time. It’s faster, cleaner, and less damaging to your yard than full stump removal, which involves digging out the entire stump and root ball.
How much does stump grinding cost?
The cost depends on several factors, including:
- Stump diameter
- Number of stumps
- Location and accessibility
- Soil conditions and root spread
We offer free quotes and upfront pricing—no surprises. Most single stump jobs are affordable and completed in under an hour.
How long does stump grinding take?
Most standard residential stumps take 30–60 minutes to grind. Larger or multiple stumps may take longer, but we work efficiently and leave your yard clean when we’re done.
Do I need to be home during the service?
Nope! As long as we have clear access to the stump and any pets are secured, we can complete the job while you're at work or away. We’ll send photos or follow up if you request.
Will the stump grow back after grinding?
In most cases, no. Grinding cuts the stump below the root collar, which prevents regrowth. However, some aggressive species like mesquite or Chinese tallow may attempt to sprout. Let us know if you’ve had issues before—we can grind deeper or treat it as needed.
What happens to the mulch or wood chips?
You can choose to keep the mulch for landscaping or have us haul it away. Most customers like to use the mulch for flower beds, pathways, or compost.
Can you grind stumps near fences, sidewalks, or buildings?
Yes—we specialize in tight-access grinding. Our compact, high-powered machines can work close to foundations, fences, patios, and even inside gated backyards. We take extra care around structures.
Will stump grinding damage my lawn or underground utilities?
We use turf-friendly equipment and take care not to damage your yard. It’s your responsibility to mark or notify us of any underground lines, sprinkler systems, or septic features near the stump. When in doubt, call 811 before we arrive.
Do you clean up after the job is done?
Absolutely. We leave the site raked and tidy. You’ll have a small pile of mulch unless you request removal or backfilling with topsoil.
Are you insured?
Yes—Gorilla Stump Grinding is fully insured. We protect your property and our team with commercial liability coverage for peace of mind.
